Craps is definitely one of the most exciting games at a casino – the craps game tables always draw a crowd of boisterous gamblers laughing and calling out, however, to the new-comer, it may seem that players at a craps game are taking in a foreign language.
This is because the craps game has its own special slang, it's pretty simple, but players need to get used to it to really understand what's going on. Most of the slang terms in a craps game are related to the types of bets placed, such as hard ways, which is a bet on the 4, 6, 8 and 10, with payouts of 7 to 1 on the 4 or 10 and 9 to 1 on the 6 or 8.
Other betting terms in a craps game include the field, a single-roll bet that pays even money or 2 to 1 on 2 or 12, the any craps bet which pays 7 to 1 if the next roll is a 2, 3 or 12, big 6 and 8 are player bets in boxes marked as such, and pays even money and the horn bet, a bet placed simultaneously on 2,3,12 and 11. Keep in mind that most of these bets carry a steep house edge.
Other craps game slang terms abound, such as a C and E bet which is a bet on a combination of any craps (2, 3 and 12) and an eleven. Some stickmen will call out "Chicken and Eggs" when a C and E bet is placed.
In the situation that numbers and points are coming out but the seven doesn’t come up for at least half an hour, it is known as a monster roll, but most of the slang in a craps game relates to the numbers rolled rather than the bets.
In some cases the meaning is clear even to the casual observer such as snake eyes, which refers to a double one roll and Little Joe means a hard ways four, and can sometimes be called in a rhyme such as Little Joe from Kokomo.
If the shooter rolls eight as the point number, the stickman will sometimes call Meet Ada from Decatur and players may say Give me a square pair or I want two windows to call a bet on a hard ways eight.
A nine roll in a craps game can be called Jesse James and if the point is a nine the stickman may call, Nina from Pasadena.
The ten has many common names, including sunflowers and double nickels, as well as many less-well known such as Venus and Mars, Tennessee Tottie, Big Ben, the Queen's Crown or the Ripper, while twelve is commonly known as boxcars or midnight
